Today’s photo was taken by assistant editor Antonio Reis while on a photo shoot this fall. He says, “When I visited Lee Reich at his home in New Paltz, New York, I noticed these Croc-esque shoes hanging from the wall of his home. Lee says that the shoes were too worn out for wearing on feet, but work splendidly when repurposed into hanging baskets filled with annuals. The holes on the shoe exterior even act as drainage points.” So cute! Thanks, Tony, for spotting this and sharing it with us.

    I love when gardening ideas show a sense of humor. The "crocs" as planters are quite fun.

    What a terrific idea for recycling all shoes... gotta go rummage through my closets... come spring all those expensive worn out sneakers I hadn't the heart to toss in the trash will get a new life laced to my veggie garden fence. Thank you!

    I checked out the instructions for making a "croc planter." I'm sure the same technique could be used with other recyclable items. Fun!

    Would be a great way to use the cute "crocs" when the kids out-grow them. Nail several to a tree.
