Anemones thrive in light to partial shade but will tolerate full sun, as long as there is sufficient moisture. Site plants in moist, humus-rich soil, but avoid overly wet conditions. Apply mulch annually in northern regions.

PropagationDivide in early spring or after flowering; pot up for a year and replant in spring. Take root cuttings in spring. Sow seed in containers in a cold frame when ripe, but germination may be erratic and lengthy.
ProblemsCaterpillars, slugs, flea beetles. Synchytrium leaf gall, downy mildew, leaf and stem smut, Septoria leaf spot, powdery mildew, and rust are all very common to Anemones, and viruses may also occur.
