Today’s photos are from one of my favorite people–garden designer Susan Morrison, who lives near San Francisco, California. She’s also coauthor of an awesome gardening book, Garden Up: Smart Vertical Gardening for Small and Large Spaces. Susan was in Naples, Florida, recently, giving a few garden talks, and she fell in love with her hostess’s bayside garden.
She sent in a few photos to share, and says, “I couldn’t believe how lush Naples was in the middle of January! Linda and Jerry Brown’s garden is mostly foliage, but even in winter there were a few giant, tropical blooms on display. It still seems amazing to me to see so many plants that I think of as houseplants, not only growing like they’re on steroids, but planted in the ground instead of a container.” So lush, Susan. There is something so appealing about a generous sized covered seating area that looks out on beautiful landscaping...just makes me want to plop down in one of those comfortable chairs and daydream...(ha, and the daydreams would be about having a generous sized covered seating area that looks out on beautiful landscaping where I could plop down in a comfortable chair and...ok, you get the point).
In other words...everything is very lovely and alluring.
Looks like a great place to get away from the 2 degree temperature here this morning... it's already up to a sweltering 16 degrees. I can imagine all those tropical plants radiating warmth.
Lucky you, Susan! What a beautiful place to kick back and relax. Looking at the photos I can just feel the moisture and smell the green of those amazing tropical's. They are certainly lush and definitely on steroids!
What a lovely tropical garden. I really love those staghorn ferns.
I've never had the opportunity to visit a tropical location. It would be delightful to explore the different vegetation and flowers.
tractor, on Tuesday we had windchills of -35 degrees but it is above zero today.
I love all those tropical plants. A wonderful place to escape to this cold wintery day even if it is only in my mind. :) thank you.
