A Gold Medal Garden

Congrats to Rose Harrison for winning the Filey in Bloom Gold medal this year! This garden in Filey North Yorkshire UK is beautiful!

"It's a new build garden in Filey North Yorkshire. I had it landscaped a no steps flowing path. The landscaper planted some shrubs. I added lots from everywhere like stately homes garden centres and garden centres supermarkets. It won Filey in Bloom Gold medal this year."

A little information about Filey in Bloom: It's an independent group of local people who want to work together to keep Filey looking at it's very best. We work alongside Scarborough Borough Council's Environmental Services team. We create special feature beds such as the Mermaid bed, the Shipwreck bed, the Fishermen sat down in Crescent Gardens, the Gardener with wheelbarrow also in Crescent Gardens and the hydrangeas in Northcliffe Gardens. Throughout the spring and summer we hold work parties throughout Filey to maintain and improve the floral and environmental features across the town. We also hold fundraising events all year round to enable us to carry out all our work, all proceeds raised are ploughed back into Filey.

Please keep sending in photos (and stories)! Whether you've never shared before or you've been featured multiple times, we want to see your garden! Email a few photos and the story behind your garden to GPOD@taunton.com.

Congratulations on winning the well deserved award, Rose. This new public garden is very creative and with its flowing walkway, it should be very hospitable for enjoyment by all...even those who might be wheelchair bound. It will only get better and better with the passage of time. It sounds like you belong to a group with a wonderful attitude and commitment to public service.

Your point about the wheelchairs is very perceptive, Meander. Wonderful to think that those challenged by steps and difficult surfaces could enjoy and admire Rose's lovely garden. Like everyone else, I can just picture this whole garden burgeoning in about a year. Marvelously inventive. Thank you so much for taking the time to share your garden with us.

    WoW!! Rose!!!!
You sure pack a LOT of interest and colour into a relatively small space!!!
And, yet it doesn't look too packed!! I reckon that's due to the imaginative open spaces! A well deserved recognition to you and the landscape team!! I'll wager you have clouds of butterflies animating these scenes, also? Sometimes we gardeners are time travelers. We see what you've accomplished this initial year, but our imaginations can easily take us into next year and further!! I picture these perennials and shrubs weaving together into a colourful and co-hesive, living tapestry Again: WoW!!
I will agree with Meander that your garden will only become more....well, of everything in seasons to come with the variety of selections installed this year!! Very Nice!! jesse

PS: I"m chuckling here as I also picture how my kittens would LOVE those post walls to travel about their realm!!!

This is a great design, Rose. It is fascinating from above and from within. The rhythmic flow makes the space look so large. I am assuming this is your back yard? Did you create the design? Very, very cool! Your award is well-deserved.

This sounds like a wonderful group to belong to and your town is so lucky to have people willing to put in their time and effort to make it a more beautiful place to live.

I love the layout of your garden----it's so spacious and flows beautifully. I hope you will send pic in the future so we can see how the plantings develop. That's always part of the fun-----seeing your ideas for plants and combinations come to fruition.

Very nice !!!! Well deserved, indeed !!! Looks like an amazing amount of work went into the hardscaping. I'm so jealous of you Brits ! Life revolving so much around your gardens… sigh… This will be truly spectacular as it ages as well. Thanks so much for sharing.
