Betsy Knafel is the winner of Fine Gardening's #ContainerCraze Challenge sponsered by Flower Carpet. Her gardening skills extend beyond her winning container!
"I very rarely go inside in the summer! I have always loved flowers and gardening. We bought our house 18 years ago and the only landscaping it had was around 2 sides of our house. We own an acre and I now have 3 sides of our property landscaped. I also have landscaped completely around the house. I started really getting into gardening about 15 years ago and worked part time at a garden center and now have my own business. I loved reading and learning about all the beautiful new plants that would come in. After the first year of working there, I was the only person who did the custom potting for customers. I absolutely LOVED it!"

Where are you Kevin? So I'll get the ball rolling. Congrats. Betsy on your award. You obviously have special skills for decorating container plants! The pink seat is a standout feature. Good luck with the landscaping of the 4th side of your property.
Ha! I let you down, Frank. Decided to go to bed early before the GPOD post was released. I know you are one of the "early" posters. What time is it down there when you usually post?
Hello there Kevin. I usually receive and comment on the GPOD around 8.00 pm. It is presently 9.30 pm on 22 June down here on the east coast of Oz. I really enjoy your comments. Keep up the good work. Cheers
Beautiful! And the roses with the clematis is a traffic-stopper! I also like your island of spruce trees/bench garden! It is all so nice. I am noticing the red barns- are you on/near a farm? Thanks for sharing! Have a great summer.
Betsy: While I love your winning container (and congratulations), I am so impressed by the fall containers in the 2nd and 3rd to the last photos. Great job. Your garden looks great.
Big compliments for winner «Betsy». Lovely composition & container
Lovely! You have a great eye and flair for color, design, texture, and form!
Congrats on your winning container composition, Betsy ... it really is a beautiful example of how to perfectly complement the proportions of the container with the plant selections. I love how you made such good use of the urn's height and tapering shape... allowing the tendrils of the ivy to drape and give the urn base what looks like a gentle hug. All very pleasing! Also, include me in the fan club of your fall displays...pumpkins always put a smile on my face.
Gorgeous, Betsy !!!!!!
You've made that 1 acre a beautiful property surrounding your house with a great choice of plants. I've got plans to copy the rose and clematis combination. Right now I've got clematis growing with honeysuckle and have to get some roses that bloom easily planted. Hopefully the fragrance and colors will be as dramatic as yours.
Lovely acre, lovely containers.Your location looks ideal, I see lots of green to set off your gardens! So great to have both sun and shade gardens. How do you keep the deer from eating your hostas? What are the rose and clematis varieties you combined?
