Garden Photo of the Day

Blooms, Butterflies, and More!

Mike Rothones' blooms brighten up his property in Loveland, Colorado.

"It's difficult for me to just choose ten photos! I grow 99 English and Old garden roses along with many hundreds of other perennials, shrubs, etc. It's a passion for me.  I tried to choose ten photos from different areas of our yard.  Last year we were honored to be chosen as one of six gardens featured in our annual City's garden tour. I hope you enjoy the photos."

Swooning over your garden passageways and seating! Such a sanctuary. Thanks for sharing.

Spectacular roses, they are spectacular. I love the arches and pathways as well you have made a paradise. What zone are you as I would have thought Colorada would be a hard place for roses.

You certainly have a winning way with roses! Especially love the photo with the pink and white roses. And GREAT shot of the Swallowtails! I'm ready for the next round of photos!

Wow! Your garden makes me want to try roses again. Just beautiful.

Love the roses. Enjoyed the path with the railroad days and bench. Very rustic. Nice place to relax. Thanks for sharing.

Amazing rose collection - that peach colored one in pic 8 is a stunner. Your passion shows. The tucked away bench under the spruce and wisteria arch really seem to invite a quiet reflective sit before the stroll along the path continues. Beautiful garden. Thanks for sharing.

You have a breathtakingly beautiful garden, Mike. I esp. love all the layering of flower power in the 3rd picture down...it even has a clematis taking the low road sneaking through the geranium to join the crowd. Your roses are pure enchantment. Are you a buyer of David Austin developed roses? Please be assured that return visits with additional groupings of pictures will be most welcome...ha, and, if fact, we insist on it!

Mike - I am in awe of your breathtakingly beautiful garden! All your roses are lovely and healthy looking and I especially love the peach one. Very tasteful hardscaping choices to match your plant selections. I'm with meander1 - we do insist on more pictures!

Wow, Mike! I was blown away with the butterfly(s) photo. Do you have to spray your roses? Any issue with Japanese beetles? You don't have any black spot or chewed up leaves. My David Austins have one great flush in early June and then just sporadic blooms...I'm really envious- great job!

Lovely, simply lovely. What gorgeous roses and inviting seating areas. More photos for another post would be delicious

Your tiger swallowtail photo stopped me dead in my tracks. Amazing. It looks like a double exposure. Love the delphiniums and your roses look great. I'm in love with the peach colored one, too, especially because of the way the color fades. Everything looks so lush and healthy; hard to believe you're in Loveland. Looks amazing!

SOOOO very lovely...starting with the amazing butterfly photo and then your absolutely gorgeous roses. Your whole garden looks lush and wonderful. I bet it smells good too!

What a beautiful garden No wonder the butterflies live in your garden. Gorgeous roses. Love all the pathways and hidden areas.

Beautiful, beautiful and beautiful! You make the town's name "Loveland"for sure! Thanks for sharing!

Mike, your photo of those Swallowtails blew me away, but you have many feeding stations to draw them in. I guess that's the secret. All of your inviting seating areas suggest that you actually sit and observe your hard work but then looking at your beautiful, well tended gardens tells a different story. Thanks for cheering up our Monday and please do share more photos.

Gorgeous! I especially love the coral rose but they are all beautiful. The butterflies, the delphinium, the arches - all beautiful. At risk of being a downer, I hate to think what your water bill must be. But it so worth it. I second or third the call for more photos.

Color, form and texture are divinely combined in your garden! Thank you for sharing.

Such a beautiful Loveland garden......wish I was there for the tour!!! Like your plant markers..........do you have hundreds?

  19. jeraleemornhinweg 07/18/2016

What varieties are the roses in pictures 3 and 7(I didn't count the very top photo). They are all beautiful and those just really caught my eye!

  20. NevadaSue 07/18/2016

Mike, Your roses are absolutely stunning! The garden paths and seating areas make me want to come and feast my eyes and rejuvenate my soul. Your love of gardening is evident in all these pictures. The honeysuckle over the arch really caught my eye, so beautiful. The way you incorporate your roses into the flow of the landscape instead of just a rose bed is so pleasing. Thanks for the sharing and do send lots more pictures soon.

Mike, the riot of colors is breathtaking. And I believe I'm going to have to reevaluate the lack of Verbascum in my garden.

  22. maryannborcherding 07/18/2016

Award winning photo of the butterflies. Loved the garden too.
