Garden Photo of the Day

Make a Difference!

We are so pleased that the GPOD helped Mary Anderson further her work with the Sunnybrook Geriatric Day Hospital!

"It is has been a few years since my initial submission to your blog.  I wanted to let you know that my submission to your publication has led to  an interest by the Toronto Herb Society, who has generously provided me with funds to continue the work that I am doing with the patients of the Sunnybrook Geriatric Day Hospital.  They came to the hospital in search of my garden. It was quite a thrill and an honour to have them take an interest in my work.  As a result, they have made two donations to the gardens.  They also came and toured the gardens, with a "boxed luncheon" which was a success. As a result of these donations,  my volunteers and I have put in a new parterre herb garden in the courtyard and have a lot of fun choosing the plant material for this space. Today I am including new pictures from the Sunnybrook Geriatric Day Hospital Garden, as it was last week.  This year the focus was on a wide variety of coleus, as well as quite a few different scented geraniums, and other assorted herbs interspersed in our raised wheelchair accessible flower beds.  I hope you enjoy."

What a great story! No email notification seems to have come out yet and often readers don't find their way here without. What an wonderful day it must have been for you to get news of support to continue your good work. You and Chris Neumann, whose curated retirement gardens were featured recently, are busy making lives better! Love your coleus and containers.

Mary, gorgeous containers and gardens. Wonderful story also. I saw many "old fashioned" plants that I'm certain residents would recognize and remember. You can see it was designed to be wheelchair friendly but it still is just a beautiful garden. Thanks for sharing again. cj

Everything looks great. I like the new parterre herb garden. Did you and your volunteers build the raised beds, too?

This is such a heartwarming follow up to your previous sharing. Your plantings are beautiful and must mean so much to the residents and their families. Congratulations on the well deserved extra funding that came your way so you could add to the projects that grace the grounds of Sunnybrook. You are an inspiration.
