Barb Stigen is sharing photos today of an incredible greenhouse she created with her husband in Alaska. It all started with 36 antique stained-glass windows Barb purchased at an auction, and then her talented husband built a greenhouse out of them. The final result is marvelous!
Annuals in pots and hanging baskets accent the beautiful glass on the front of the greenhouse.
The greenhouse sits to the side of impeccably maintained
raised beds full of vegetables.
The long side of the greenhouse is stained glass as well! This is truly a work of art, but it’s also functional. The roof looks to be made from polycarbonate, which doesn’t shatter like glass and lets lots of light in for the plants inside to thrive.
And can we talk about this beautiful
vegetable garden? Everything looks so healthy and perfect, from the
carrots and beets in the back to the
peas climbing up in front of the greenhouse, to the young
squash plants in the foreground.
The other side of the greenhouse is just as beautiful, with flowering annuals at the base of a birch (
Betula sp.) tree. Notice the chimney at the back of the greenhouse, a sign that heat is provided inside during the cold time of the year. In warmer climates, venting for warm, sunny days would be at least as important, if not more so.
If possible, the greenhouse is even more beautiful lit up at night!

Incredible! Spectacular! WOW! And I’m sure the greenhouse is put to very good use. The veggies in the raised beds are beautiful as well.
Thanks so much for sharing!
Is it only me or were others disappointed not to see any photos taken inside the greenhouse? Upon seeing the opening photograph, I wondered about the experience of standing inside the colorful chapel for plant lovers. And so I scrolled down, but didn't get what I was after. :(
The greenhouse is out of this world? Could you please, please, please share the inside?
WOW- spectacular! Beautiful, and beautifully made. I have often thought of making a reclaimed window greenhouse, but never thought of using stained glass. What a lovely garden plot as well, with chickens!! Thanks so much for sharing.
What more words are there? Spectacular, amazing, like a jewel set in your yard. And amazing veggies, too! Thanks so much for sharing!
Just have to add my "WOWS" to the list!!! How very clever you both are!!! Truly a "jewel" in your garden!!! Has no one ever done this before? Thank you for taking the time to share your creativity with us all!!!
Everything about your garden is magical - the greenhouse, the raised beds and, is that little green structure a chicken coop? Wonderful!
People are so stinking creative. How beautiful!!!!
That made me hungry too.
So impressive! Yes I’d love to see the inside of the greenhouse as well. Another question, is the Stained glass protected in anyway from the elements? Hail etc.?
Here comes another WOW for this incredible work of functional art. It's truly beautiful and must make you smile every time you step into your back yard. The chicken coop (?) is also equally charming and your raised beds seem to be filled with a very bountiful crop! It's all so lovely.
Best greenhouse ever! A+!
Add one more WOW…Your greenhouse is a work of art. I’m another one who would like to see the inside. There’s got to be a story there. I’m sure FG would post more pics and info. Please follow up with more pics and details…like soon! Thanks for sharing…the prettiest GH I’ve ever seen 😊
I certainly won't be able to ever come close to replicating your fantastic greenhouse, but I can at least get the door to my garden shed painted! Maybe a gorgeous turquoise like yours! Love the wonderful way you and your husband reused your auction treasure, and look forward to more photos from you. Thanks so much for sharing and inspiring!
