Wesley Younie is a residential and commercial landscape designer based in Portland, Oregon. When asked to describe his work, he says, “My focus is to paint the landscape with plants using a palette that is beautiful and sustainable.” Once you learn that Wesley is also an artist and you see his garden designs, this completely makes sense. He studied at California College of the Arts and Pacific Northwest College of Art before earning a bachelor’s degree in painting at Portland State University. In the landscape, he is deeply influenced by Japanese design and the New Perennial Movement—and he loves replacing lawns with drought-tolerant pollinator gardens. When he’s not getting his hands dirty in a garden, you can find Wesley creating complex, thought-provoking paintings and sculptures.
