Alternatives for conifers in fire-prone areas?

| Posted in Pacific Northwest Gardening on

Can you offer any alternatives for conifers in fire-prone areas? I love the idea of evergreen, coniferous plants but wildfires are an increasing concern where I live.

check out the post in Regional Reports about Firewise Gardening for the Pacific Northwest It has a link to the Eastern Washington Firewise publication that is also helpful. Conifers can be used, with the exception of very resinous ones like Pines and Junipers. The distance between conifers, distance away from structures, and a non-flammable mulch like rock makes it work.
