Anemone ‘Honorine Jobert’

mdwyer | Posted in Midwest Gardening on

As I recently toured Olbrich Botanical Garden in Madison, WI, I was on the lookout for plants that had exceptional interest in early October.  The usual culprits like asters, goldenrods, ornamental grasses and other perennials abounded and I enjoyed the start of fall color here and there.  Seeing a large patch of Anemone ‘Honorine Jobert’ still blooming reminded me of its amazingly long bloom period. I’ve grown this perennial many times and while it does spread to create a patch, it literally blooms for three months starting in early August.  The clear white flowers with yellow centers, hovering at 4′ tall or so, are exceptional!  I also saw the variety ‘September Charm’ still looking charming in October.  What’s still blooming in your October, Midwest garden?
