Beautyberry Social Media Controversy

Social Media Controversy – Never!

Fine Gardening made a post the other day that mentioned cutting beautyberry back every year for best fruit display.  I know every region is different – In the Southeast the only time I cut beautyberry back is to selectively control “wild hair” sprouts.  Other than that, I don’t touch the thing.  What do you all do?

Thank you for posting this question Andy. I'm curious to learn what works for other gardeners. There does seem to be multiple approaches. Here are some links with more information on pruning beautyberries.

Good question! In my now zone 8b garden in eastern NC, I have an abundance of native beautyberry and use them strategically throughout. Those growing on the woodland borders of the yard do not get pruned but those in garden beds in the yard do get pruned to about two feet tall at the end of each winter.

Sounds like a good method to me!
