My summer Alliums are in full bloom. As an Allium junkie I look forward to seeing their spikey balls of color burst open. Not as dramatic as their spring cousins, they bring the same smile to my face. What is making you smile in your garden during these hot days of July and August? I love the flash of red provided by cardinal flower (Lobelia cardinalis) z3 and it's certainly of interest to hummingbirds as well. The trick with establishing these perennials for longevity is ample moisture! Don't let them dry out!
Hibiscus are flamboyant and I love them. This is one of the smaller "Luna" varieties.
