Globe Amaranths

mdwyer | Posted in Midwest Gardening on

Have you tried using any globe amaranths (Gomphrena) in your beds, borders or containers? They are not only heat tolerant (annuals for most) but offer a range of colors (orange, red, pink, white, purple) that float on rounded flower structures!  The varieties ‘Fireworks’ and ‘Truffula Pink’ have become extremely popular for their profusion of vivid pink blooms.  I’m a big fan of ‘Cosmic Flare’ too which also features bright golden foliage!  You have to find this one as a plant but WOW, it sure is vivid!

I love using gomphrena in borders and it also make a great cut flower. One of my favorites to start from seed is QIS orange.

QIS Orange is also a favorite of mine! As you mentioned, excellent as a cut flower (both fresh and dried). QIS Carmine is pretty cool too and very vibrant!
