Homemade deer repellent

I heard a news story recently that half and half mixed with equal parts water has been found to be more effective than purchased deer repellent sprays. One of the uncommon instances when the cheaper easier method is best! Does anyone use half and half? Do you have any other homemade repellents you find work really well?
