What can I do to prevent or get rid of grasshoppers in the garden? They destroyed everything this past year and I really don’t want a redo next year. Any advice?

They were wretched in our area, too and did a lot of damage at our botanical garden.
There are several treatments that can be used, and it is often recommended to do more than one at a time. NOLO bait is a granular substance that is poison to the grasshoppers but non-toxic to us. Another option, Diatomaceous earth, is a fine powder substance that can be "dusted" throughout the garden/on the plants. It too is non-toxic and relatively inexpensive.
The earlier you start treating the area, the better. These products are more effective when the grasshoppers are young. Plus, you will need to reapply the "dusts" throughout the season. Good luck.
