Ok to plant pampas now?

| Posted in Southeast Gardening on

I have 8 potted pampas grass plants that are dormant right now. I would like to get them in the ground. Has anyone done that at this time of year? I’m in Athens, GA, Zone 8A. Any tips/ tricks to help them come back in the spring? Thank you!

Because it is a warm season grass it would be ideal to spring plant. However, you already have them and you are in a good zone for them. The main issue will be cool wet weather could lead to some rot. I would go ahead and plant now, I would make sure you loosen as much of the soil around their root-ball as possible. A good layer of mulch away from the crown of the plant could also help insulate.
