Orchids

Chloe_Moderator | Posted in Northeast Gardening on

I’m fortunate to have a specialty orchid grower in my area and it’s such a delight to go wander through the warm greenhouse and look at all the unusual species. I got a phragmipedium lady slipper last year and it just started blooming. Many members of this genus are well suited to regular house conditions. Do you grow orchids? Are they brightening up your January interiors right now?

I have a few orchids that keep my African Violets company. I have a client and good friend that has turned her love into quite a hobby. There are currently 30 residing in a sunny east facing corner of her house. Whenever she is out of town I have the pleasure of tending them. It is a glorious day when they are in bloom.

30! Impressive. What species do well for her? I also have a few violets and they keep my orchids company. I like that they generally bloom together. Makes for such a pretty display!
