Its easy to be a fan of succulent containers in the warm dry parts of the southwest. They require so little care that it can feel like I must be cheating somehow. An occasional good soaking and a spot in partial sun is all they need. I fertilize lightly whan they seem to be in active growth. The reward is a beautiful array of crisp sculpted forms perfectly arranged in just the right container. In my area (Tucson) a little protection helps on the coldest winter nights for more tender species like Jade plants and echeverias, but otherwise they can go for weeks on end with no intervention at all.
