Pruning Annuals – July/Aug

| Posted in Southeast Gardening on

In July or early August, I often cut back early planted annuals that are getting leggy to keep them looking good into the fall. Trailing or ground-cover-type petunias in containers at my house often get this treatment.  What other annual do you cut back in your garden?  What tips do you have?

Do you think Cuphea bloom again if it is cut back in August?

I think it can be done, but I would not cut cuphea back very hard!

Coleus should be clipped back regularly to stay lush and keep their color strong. If you don’t they just get leggy and flop over.
