I was visiting a friend last week and she was eager to show me her neighbor’s magnificent dawn redwood (metasequoia glyptostrobides). I was struck by the pride and pleasure the owners clearly take in this specimen tree, planted by a grandmother. I felt like the tree was a family member itself. Planting a potentially large and long-lived tree can be a big decision! Do you have any mature trees with special significance to you? Are you planting any large trees this spring?
