Trombocino Squash

LSweeney_moderator | Posted in Mid-Atlantic Gardening on

Has anyone tried trombocino squash as a replacement for zucchini? I have had trouble with squash vine borers whenever I try to grow any winter or summer squash that is a variety of Cucurbita pepo, which includes some of the most common varieties and pumpkin and zucchini. However, varieties of Cucurbita moschata, which includes butternut squash, are resistant to the borers. Trombocino squash is an Italian heirloom variety of C. moschata that is grown for summer squash and can be a great alternative for those who struggle with squash vine borers. The only drawback is that is grows like a winter squash with long vines rather than the bush like habit of regular zucchini so space is a consideration.
