Veggies are still going… How do I keep them safe?
This is my first year with a vegetable garden and I still have peppers, tomatoes and melons that are trying to fruit. I’m in Sahuarita just south of Tucson. Can I cover them at night or is it a lost cause with the cold night temps? I realize they are not meant to be winter plants but I want to get everything I can out of them. Thanks for any input.

every additional bit of produce you get is a bonus now, so keep them going as long as you can. Covering with sheets or multiple layers of frost cloth is the best protection. You may find that at some point the flavor on some things is just not what it was when we had warmer temperatures, but late tomatoes and peppers can still be used in sauces, etc.. If production drops or a hard freeze comes along then it's time to give yourself a break and start planning for next season.
