What are the best blueberries for our area?

| Posted in Mountain West Gardening on

Any advice on blueberry bushes here in Noco? I’ve tried for years different light, more water, less water, in ground, in raised beds, etc. I kept one alive and only 10 whole blueberries nothing more. What variety do you have? Any tips?

I am so sorry I am just now seeing this! My apologies.

Blueberries take a lot of work in our gardening region. I gave up after trying to grow them --- same story: only one plant survived but I might have had 7 berries! My neighbors are finally having some success, but it took a while.

    1. They did a professional soil test which indicated they needed to add elemental sulfur to the soil where the berries were. 2. They grow the blueberries where the shrubs get shade after 2 pm. 3. They need adequate water so they check them 2x a week.

I would also suggest you try one of the "acidic" planting mixes in your raised beds and mulch the plants to help retain water.

Good luck. Please let me know how they do next season.
