"picture this" phone app will be on my cell phone until the day I stop gardening. This app can identify plants, insects, disease, and more. a most helpful garden tool!
Great question! I personally don't have a go to app aside from the ones I listen to audiobooks on while gardening but I am curious to hear what others like.
I use Picture This as well and find it most useful.
I am one of the moderators from the Mountain States forum. Just thought I would offer this: I love the "Visual Lookup" function on the newer iPhones. Snap a pic of a plant or flower or something, and at the bottom of the screen, you will see a small letter "i" in a circle with a couple of stars. Click on that and it will do a pretty good job identifying the item in the photo. So far I am about 9 out of 10 for the win.
I just learned about this recently and have used it a lot since then! It is surprisingly accurate most of the time!
Pretty interesting isn't it? That was my experience too. And for a couple of years I worked for a company where we did on-line plant ID. Before A-I. I am liking this a lot. I need to try it with plant diseases tho, and see if it will recognize issues like powdery mildew, etc.
Have a good Thanksgiving!
Picture This. I use it to educate myself to accurately identify plants. And would love to learn of other apps.
It looks like Picture This is a popular choice! I'll have to try it!
It's pouring rain and trying to snow here, but I may take Picture This out for a trial run later today. Thanks for the recommendation.
I use Picture This. It is wonderful.
I'll add my vote to the Picture This app, which I discovered while working with expert gardeners during my internship in the Massachusetts Master Gardener Association. I especially appreciate the ability it has to identify a huge variety of plants and trees, including weeds, native and wildflowers, plants that are poisonous to cats and dogs, etc. I also love the ability to keep a running "My Garden" record of the plants in my own yard with additional notes. (I use the paid version at $40 annually)
Looks to me like "Picture This" is a winner!
We use iNaturalist quite a bit to help with identification!
Picture This is best one...
I use the app Cucullata https://apps.apple.com/us/app/cucullata-plant-care/id6463136584, and it’s genuinely convenient, especially for a large collection. I've added all 59 of my plants to it. It's pretty rare to find such a unique app that allows you to add so many plants. The app is free, with no ads—just a pleasure to use!
