These palms draw attention with their distinctive crownshafts, large flower panicles with innumerable stamens, and showy red or orange fruits. Most species are indigenous to tropical rainforests of the Pacific Islands. Smaller species ornament gardens and patios; grow larger species in open areas. 

Noteworthy CharacteristicsMost grow well in containers, and can be grown under glass in cooler climates.

CareOutdoors, grow in fertile, moist but well-drained soil in full sun. Indoors, provide full light and a peat and sand-based soil mix; water and fertilize when in growth, sparingly in winter.
