Meadow blazingstar

Liatris ligulistylis

Information provided by Prairie Nursery

“Known as the Monarch magnet, this spectacular Liatris should be top-of-the-list as a Monarch nectar source for any medium soil garden. Swallowtails, Hairstreaks, Fritillaries, Painted Ladies – depending on what butterflies are in your area – are also likely to visit this plant along with hummingbirds and other pollinators. The bloom color leans toward magenta, with the tufted blossoms appearing all at once along the stems and lasting for many weeks in late summer.

Meadow Blazingstar adds a vertical accent to perennial borders. It can be 5′ tall when planted in rich soils, in which case you may want to stake the plants, depending upon how they are situated among other plants. It is somewhat tolerant of poorer dry soils, where it’s height will be at the shorter end of its range. It tolerates summer heat and humidity well, but avoid planting it in soils that stay moist/wet in the winter.”
