This drought-tolerant perennial bears abundant pure blue flower spikes in early summer and until fall if spent flowers are removed promptly. It forms an erect clump 20 inches tall by 18 inches wide, with wrinkled, softly hairy leaves.
Noteworthy CharacteristicsSalvias are some of the showiest plants for containers, annual borders, and mixed borders. The flowers are made up of two lips: the upper one forms a hood over whiskery stamens and the lower lip, which itself is wide and toothed. Butterflies love them.
CareProvide moist but well-drained soil in full sun. Plants tolerate drought but prefer moist soils. They may become floppy in hot, humid summers.
