The genus Pachysandra is made up of four species of evergreen or semi-evergreen plants from China, Japan, and the U.S. They are grown primarily for their ground-covering foliage. P. terminalis is from China and Japan and is one of the most frequently used groundcovers, but it can be invasive. Allegheny spurge ( P. procumbens ) is native to the southeastern U.S. and is better-behaved. It also has fragrant flowers. Use Pachysandra as groundcover in a shady area. It may invade lawns and natural areas.
